Treasures in Heaven

In Matthew 6:19-20, Jesus provides sage advice: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”

Do you ever wonder—what are these “treasures in heaven”? Scripture talks about roles, responsibilities, and even crowns. But some of the very best treasures are the additional people who will be there—because of you.

God gives us the incredible privilege of joining Him in saving souls for heaven. God gives us the resources and the joyful opportunity to invest into churches and ministries that are sharing Jesus with others.

When you give your time, treasure, or talents (musicians, bakers, artists!) to Loving the Wise, you are part of a community bringing the Good News of salvation to the lost and lonely elderly in senior homes.

In my First Presbyterian Church in the ‘80s, the song “Thank You” by Ray Boltz deeply stirred my soul. If you've never heard it, I encourage you to watch his live performance here.

The lyrics read:

I dreamed I went to heaven

And you were there with me

We walked upon the streets of gold

Beside the crystal sea

We heard the angels singing

Then someone called your name

You turned and saw this young man

And he was smiling as he came…

Thank you for giving to the Lord

Thank you for giving to the Lord

I am so glad you gave.

In heaven, you may receive plenty of “high-fives” from those who are saved for eternity because of a role our Loving Lord allowed you to play in leading him or her to salvation.

You may receive hugs and cheers and expressions of thanks from their family and friends as well. You may not meet Jay and Jim and others who have received Christ through the impact of LTW in this world, but you will have an eternity of time to meet and fellowship with them in heaven.

And most importantly, God will receive that much incremental glory—from the worship and love expressed by these additional souls—forever and ever!

Please consider exchanging worldly trash (destined for destruction) for eternal treasure you will get to enjoy forever with Loving the Wise!
